NORTH SCITUATE — The Rhode Island State Police arrested a Rehoboth woman for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs-1st Offense and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs Resulting in Serious Injury after she struck and East Providence Police cruiser early Friday morning, June 24.
The operator of the vehicle that struck the cruiser was identified as Jessica Kozlowski, 26, of 299 Providence St., Rehoboth. Ms. Kozlowski displayed signs of impairment and was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests, which she failed.
Ms. Kozlowski was transported to Rhode Island State Police Headquarters, where she was held overnight. She was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs – 1st Offense / .15 or Greater (BAC .167/ .150). She will be arraigned in Sixth Division District Court at the Garrahy Complex in Providence Friday morning.
The incident took place 1:38 a.m. on Interstate 195 East in East Providence. Two marked police cruisers were stopped in the first and second travel lanes providing emergency lights to the State Police, who were investigating a two car motor vehicle crash on I-195 East at Exit 7, Wampanoag Trail.
The cruiser in the second lane was struck by a vehicle traveling on Route 195 east. The officer, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was treated at Miriam Hospital for injuries and released. The occupants of the other vehicle refused treatment at the scene.
A person convicted of Driving Under the Influence – 1st Offense is shall be subject to a fine of $500 and shall be required to perform 20 to 60 hours of public community restitution and/or shall be imprisoned for up to one year.
