The Barrington High School boys ice hockey team opened up its regular season with a 6-2 victory over Mount St. Charles in Woonsocket on Saturday night, Dec. 9. 

First-year Eagles Coach Jacob Kapstein said he was very pleased with his team’s performance. 

“The team played great,” Kapstein said, adding that his squad had limited ice time for practices leading up to the game. “They played hard, and matched their intensity.”

Barrington took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal from Henry Kelsey. Trevor Snow and Adam Gorman assisted on the goal. 

Mount St. Charles knotted the score at 1-1 a few minutes later and then built a 2-1 advantage. That lead held up through the end of the first period and most of the second. With 30 seconds left in the second period, Snow scored a short-handed goal for Barrington and tied the game at 2-2. 

The third period was all Eagles. 

Barrington went on a 4-on-3 power play early and Gorman scored an unassisted goal to give his team a 3-2 lead. Gorman then tallied his second goal a short time later with the Eagles on a 5-on-4 power play. Brock Carroll assisted on Gorman’s second goal. 

Leading 4-2, Barrington buried a pair of late-game empty-netters. Snow scored off an assist from Cody Wood while Ryan Claussen notched Barrington’s final goal on an assist from Trent Senn. 

Meanwhile, Barrington’s defense and goaltending was also strong. Cam Siwik started the game in net and stopped 29 out of 31 shots. However, Siwik had a blade fall off one of his skates twice during the game and had to come off the ice. Dom Bruzzi filled in nicely, stopping all four shots he faced. 

Kapstein said John O’Connell and Joe Carmone played well on defense also. He also praised the line of Brock Carroll, Connor Hayes and Cameron Hayes. 

Barrington will be back on the ice on Wednesday night, Dec. 13. The Eagles will play against Burrillville at the Portsmouth Abbey Rink, at 6:45 p.m.
