Furtado’s charitable project earns Eagle Badge

Posted

WESTPORT — Boy Scout Troop 63 honored Chad Furtado,18, at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Thursday, June 2, at the Westport Point United Method Church.

Chad joined Cub Pack 63 in 2005 and worked steadily to achieve Scouting’s coveted Eagle Badge. He also earned the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society.

An Eagle Scout must complete at least 21 merit badges, serve in various scouting leadership positions, and organize a service project benefiting his church, community, or school.

Chad’s service project involved raising money, purchasing materials, and organizing the assembly of hygiene kits serving the needy. His efforts resulted in 150 kits distributed through Mobile Loaves and Fishes, an organization serving the New Bedford area.  Because of this initial success, Troop 63 has committed to ongoing support of Mobile Loaves and Fishes.

A senior at Westport High School, He has worked as an intern for Fourtech Computer Services and is a certified soccer referee. He was also a contestant this year in Westport High School’s Mr. Westport contest.  He is employed at Lee’s Supermarket and will be attending Bristol County Community College in the Fall.

Chad is the son of Joseph and Wendy Furtado.
