In Barrington, sign and door end up on roofs

Resident spots prankster running from his home

Two Barrington residents made strange discoveries last week — unexpected items placed on top of their homes.

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, a Driscoll Lane resident called police after he found a door had been put on the roof of his house.

The resident told police he was awakened by a loud noise the previous night and when he looked outside he saw a young man running away from his house and jumping into a pickup truck. The resident told police he did not get the license plate of the truck.

Police are checking with neighbors to see if anyone has doorbell camera footage.

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, Barrington Police responded to a Walter Street residence for a report of items left on the property. The homeowner told police that someone left a chair on his property, so he placed it curbside for trash pickup. The homeowner later spotted a plastic “Slow, Child at Play” sign up on top of the roof of his house.

The homeowner told police he had no idea how the sign got there, but suspects it was probably kids playing a prank.

A short time later, a Linden Road resident contacted police to report that their plastic “Slow, Child at Play” sign had gone missing from their property. Police said the sign found on Walter Street did not belong to the Linden Road residents, however.
