Patrick McCrann is the new chairman of the Barrington School Committee.
The first order of business at Thursday night’s meeting was the election of officers. The action followed the recent general election, where Independents TJ Peck and Frazier Bell won seats on the committee.
At the start of Thursday night’s meeting, Peck nominated McCrann for chairman. The vote was 4-1 in favor — Peck, Bell, McCrann and Amanda Regino Basse voted “Yay,” while Dr. Megan Douglas was the lone “Nay” vote.
Bell then nominated Peck to serve as vice chairman. McCrann seconded that motion, and the vote carried 4-1. Again, Douglas was the lone “Nay” vote.
Douglas had recently served as vice chair of the school committee while Gina Bae was chair. (Bae and Erika Sevetson did not run for re-election this year.)
The new leadership for the Barrington School Committee follows a campaign pledge from Peck and Bell that, if elected, they would partner with McCrann to form a new majority. McCrann, a Democrat, also endorsed Peck and Bell during their campaign.
