We are writing to express our strong support for a $3 million override for the Town of Westport. As persons who deeply care about the people of Westport, we believe that the funds generated by the override are crucial to making our schools first rate, maintaining and upgrading town services for the public and improving working conditions for town and school employees. We must take action to address the issues now. We cannot continue kicking the can down the road.
Our demographics are pointing to an older vulnerable population who will require special services, and our youth need an education that utilizes the newest technology and opportunities which meets their varied needs. The town has been cutting personnel and services because of the basic fiscal deficit that it has been facing for years. Band-aids and Scotch tape are not answers.
In light of these compelling reasons, we urge you to join us in supporting an override budget at Town Meeting on May 2. To find out more about why it’s time to vote for an override, you may wish to read the paper done by a group of fellow Westport citizens that you can find at www.yeswestport.com.
