Michael W Rocha II

Little Compton

Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: As a life long resident of Little Compton, I have a deep connection to this community. I attended Wilbur McMahon, grades k-8. I own two successful businesses, Mike W. Rocha II LLC and Coastal Oaks Laser Engraving. My wife Cora and I share a blended family of 6 children. 5 of our kids have passed through Wilbur McMahon within the last 7 years.

Our youngest child, Avary, is a third grader this year. We have 2 graduates of Portsmouth High School, with 3 more coming up within the next 3 years. My experience and background in the school and community includes participation in the school safety subcommittee, volunteering as a parent chaperone for 7th & 8th grade class trips as well as provided sponsorship.

I volunteered for several years running the sound system for school events such as the musicals and graduation ceremonies. While working on these events it was evident the school needed upgrades in the gymnasium. I was instrumental in the planning and implementation of upgrades to the lighting and sound systems.

I am a member of the LC Community Emergency Response Team and Chairman of the LC Fireworks Committee. I have coached Tiverton Youth Soccer and serve on the Advisory Board of Bristol Agricultural HS and serve as guest instructor.

With your vote I will support the International Baccalaureate Program, FUSE RI, and ensure school safety protocols during COVID. While a new high school contract is imminent, it is important to re-evaluate SpEd services for equal treatment of LC kids. I promise to be fiscally responsible while advocating for students, teachers and taxpayers.
