Nancy Wildes, Governor of Mayflower Descendants of RI, was joined last week by Ray Battcher, historian for the Mayflower Descendants, Pokanoket Nation members Lee "Braveheart" Edmonds and Harry "Hawk" Edmonds, Sachem Dancing Star and Sagamore Po Wauipi Neimpaug to celebrate the donation of a commemorative bench to the Pokanoket people by the Mayflower Descendants of RI.
It is located near the Pokanoket memorial in Burr’s Hill Park, and is dedicated to the memory of Massasoit Ousamequin.
“We are so happy to be here and be able to celebrate your ancestor who helped our ancestors many years ago,” Wildes said, after receiving grateful remarks from the Pokanoket Sachem and Sagamore.
