Portsmouth: DUIs, public drinking, drug charges top police report

PORTSMOUTH — Here are some recent arrests made by the Portsmouth Police Department:

Saturday, July 27

Eri Lajara, 44, of 8 Marlene Drive, Syosset, N.Y., was charged with obstructing an officer in the execution of duty, and operating a watercraft while intoxicated (first offense). Lajara was arrested at about 8:10 p.m. at Potters Cove, Prudence Island.

Sunday, July 28

Two men from Brockton, Mass. were issued summons for possessing and consuming alcohol at a park or beach, in violation of the town ordinance, in the area of Railroad Avenue and the Sakonnet River Bridge at about 3:20 p.m. They were John J. Depina, 29, of 71 Richmond St., Apt. 1, and Manuel A. Lara, 33, of 67 Elliot St., Apt. 2.

Brenden R. Piermont, 26, of 185 Hedly St., was charged at about 4 p.m. with the possession and use of Class C fireworks after officers responded to Hedly Street to investigate a report of the illegal discharge of fireworks, police said.

Maria I. Granados Velasquez, 44, of 315 California Ave., Providence, was charged with consuming and possessing alcohol at a park or beach, in violation of a town ordinance. She was charged at about 4:40 p.m. at the beach off Pheasant Drive.

Monday, July 29

Olivia Anna Boyce, 27, of 4 Downs Drive, Lincoln, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), first offense, following a single-vehicle accident on Hilltop Drive at about 8:20 p.m.

Wednesday, July 31

Aries S. Ross, 29, of 144 Fairview Ave., Somerset, was arrested on an affidavit warrant charging him with two counts of manufacturing/possessing/delivering a controlled substance following a prior narcotics investigation, police said. Ross was transported to the police station by the Rhode Island Sheriff’s Department shortly before 7 p.m., according to police. He was secured in a male cell to await transportation to 2nd District Court.

Thursday, Aug. 1

Brandon Reynolds Hall, 39, of Third Beach Road, Middletown, was charged with DUI, second offense, at about 7:15 p.m. The arrest was made after officers received a report of an erratic driver who failed to maintain his lane before pulling into the parking lot of Dollar General, police said. Hall was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Saturday, Aug. 3

Judy Lee Gray, 32, of 82 Warner St., Apt. 1, Newport, was charged with DUI, first offense, after being pulled over on West Main Road at the Mobil Xtra Mart at about 1:10 a.m. 

Jared J. Acosta, 24, of 23 School St., Providence, was charged with driving with a suspended, revoked, or canceled license — his fifth and subsequent offense. Acosta was stopped on West Main Road at about 6:15 p.m. because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, according to police.
