PORTSMOUTH — In front of a packed house Wednesday afternoon, the Portsmouth Middle School girls’ basketball team defeated Thompson Middle School, 38-31, to claim the title of Division champions.
The girls move on to play in the state playoffs later this week.
The team was led by its top scorer, Violet Silvia, and the defense was locked down by center Haley Hurd.
“As a whole the team has a fantastic dynamic,” said Samantha Rollings, head coach. “They always keep their heads up and look for the open pass and always trust in their teammates. They have worked hard to get to this point and be undefeated, but with their skill level, great attitude, and work ethic, their success thus far comes as no surprise.”
