BRISTOL/PORTSMOUTH — The U.S. Coast Guard along with fire department and police units from Bristol and Portsmouth are searching for a person who reportedly jumped off the Mt. Hope Bridge this afternoon.

A “confirmed jumper” was reported from the north side of the span sometime after 1 p.m.

The Marine 1 boat out of Bristol was unable to launch because of excessive ice near the Mt. Hope boat ramp. A Coast Guard boat and helicopter were seen searching the waters beneath the bridge at 2 p.m.

State Police and rescue and police units from Bristol and Portsmouth were stationed at the bottom of Old Ferry Road on the Bristol side.

We’ll update this story as we learn more.
