Delaware champs knock Barrington out of tournament

The Barrington Little League Senior All Star softball team was eliminated from the Regional Tournament after losing 14-1 to Delaware on Monday, July 22.

Barrington finished the tournament with a 1-3 record. Barrington lost to a tough Worcester team 13-7 in the first game of pool play on Saturday, July 20.

Audrey Paxton pitched well for Barrington, logging multiple strikeouts. The game was also kept close by Erin Moran’s throws from behind the plate connecting with Cora Floriani and Anna Aguiar for several outs on attempted steals. Abby Capuano played a strong second base, with Emily Peluso contributing multiple outs at first base.

Barrington improved its record to 1-1 after picking up a forfeit win in its second game. In the third game, Barrington battled Connecticut.

Izzy Martin took the mound for Barrington and had an impressive performance, logging several strikeouts. Connecticut’s bats were confused by the pitching style and took several innings to adjust.

The game was tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, when Aguiar drove in two runs with a double to take the lead. But Connecticut could not be silenced and had a dominant seventh inning. Connecticut went on to win 13-4.

In the game, Moran had a double, while Floriani, Alessandra Brunkskill, Grace Fontaine, Martin, Capuano, and Joy Cassidy all had singles.

On Monday, Barrington lost 14-1 to the Mid-Atlantic two seed, Middletown-Odessa-Township, which was the Delaware state champions.

Barrington secured its spot in regionals by winning the District 2 Championship. There was no state tournament, so the District 2 winner advanced directly to Little League regionals, which were played in Worcester, Mass.

The winner of the East Region will advance to the Senior League Softball World Championship, which will be played in Delaware, in late July and early August.

This was the final tournament coached by Barrington Little League President Aaron Aguiar.
