The region’s farmers’ markets are in full swing at locations from Newport to Providence. Here’s a roundup of the opportunities to get outside and see what local farmers and vendors have to offer.

Providence

The Hope Street Farmers Market takes place Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lippitt Park at the north end of Blackstone Boulevard. Find everything from fish, meat and eggs, to fresh produce, baked goods, coffee, sandwiches, diverse ethnic foods and more.

Adjacent to the farmers market is the Providence Artisans Market, with original artwork, photography, clothing, housewares and other hand-made items.

Bristol

The Mount Hope Farmers Market takes place in the South Pasture at Mount Hope Farm, 250 Metacom Ave. From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., find fresh foods and goods from dozens of local businesses, accompanied by live music.

Middletown

The Aquidneck Growers Market takes place Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Embrace Home Loans, 25 Enterprise Drive. Presented by Aquidneck Community Table, it includes organic and conventionally grown products that include fresh vegetables, cut flowers, fruit, plants, eggs, breads, meats, seafood, cheese and prepared foods.

Tiverton

This popular market takes place Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Tiverton Town Farm Recreation Area, 3588 Main Road. They typically have a food truck and live music to accompany a couple dozen vendors with produce, meats, prepared foods, handmade goods and more.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
