The Warren Town Council awarded a commendation to Patrolman Lane Ukura of the Warren Police Department during their meeting on June 14, recognizing him for heroic actions undertaken during a fire incident on April 16, 2022.

The commendation describes how Ukura’s quick actions resulted in the rescue of five adults, a four-year-old child, and “many pets” after he responded to a fire at a duplex on Crescent Street at 4:44 a.m.

“Patrolman Ukura advised dispatch that a wooden fence, the siding of the house and the main electrical service was on fire. Smoke was beginning to enter the residence. Without hesitation, Patrolman Ukura entered the residence and was able to safely evacuate several tenants and their pets,” the incident report reads.

“One tenant was an 83-year-old female that was asleep in her bedroom. Startled and unable to stand on her own, Patrolman Lane Ukura carried the 83-year-old female from the bedroom to the front porch, where she was attended to by rescue personnel. Patrolman Lane Ukura engaged in an immediate, life-saving measure,” the report continued.

Patrolman Ukura received a round of applause from the attendees of the meeting and an official commendation from the Warren Town Council for his actions.
