Contractors working with the Westport Highway Department have begun re-paving the turnaround at the Westport Point town landing to ease parking and traffic concerns at the tight spot at the end of Main Road.
Westport Town Administrator James Hartnett said Monday that the contractor placed a leveling course of asphalt at the area last week, but the work is not yet done. The site will be monitored over the winter to make sure the new layer doesn't have any unintended impacts on the flow of stormwater in the area; Hartnett said any needed adjustments will be made in the Spring, when a top course of asphalt is laid down.
After that, the new surface will be striped, and no parking areas will be delineated.
Voters approved of the $50,000 project at this year's Town Meeting in May.
