Adamsville farmer a victim of theft — again

Nicole Wordell said an additional 50 plants were stolen last Friday

Adamsville herb farmer Nicole Wordell felt a flood of relief and gratitude after donors this month raised more than $1,700 to cover the 300 plants stolen earlier this summer from her honor system stand on Main Street. But after the theft of another 50 plants last Friday, she said she is discouraged again and is leaning toward not opening her stand next summer.

“Not yet,” she said when asked if she’s decided about next year. “But no, unless (the thief) is caught and arrested. I cannot do this again.”

Dozens of strangers and friends came to Wordell’s aid after news of the recent thefts was reported two weeks ago: A Barrington man started a gofundme drive that to date has raised $1,710, and countless others stopped with words of encouragement, or to leave a few extra dollars in her secure cash box.

The donated funds allowed Wordell to purchase security cameras, but due to technical issues they had not been set up before a thief took an additional 50 plants last week.

Wordell said she couldn’t believe it when she came home Friday and discovered the latest losses.

"I just can’t wrap my head around it and I don’t have the heart to tell the people on the gofundme page," Wordell said.

Though police have been involved for several weeks, the perpetrator has not turned up though Wordell believes it's a middle aged woman driving a blue Subaru with Massachusetts tags. If the person responsible is caught and arrested, she will fell better but now just feels exasperated and nearly defeated.

"I just don't understand how someone can do this."
