Adamsville welcomes new fitness studio

Posted

For those looking for a place to give their long-lost New Year’s resolutions a kick in the tail feathers, a new fitness studio is set to open in the heart of Adamsville.

Henhouse Studios, at 26 Main St., will be home to a range of exercise classes, from casual pilates to powerful vinyasa yoga, that welcome all levels. Its founder, Karey Kinnane, aims to provide a program that is accessible and practical for people in the area.

“I wanted to offer a space for the community to be able to come to that's not a 20-minute drive away,” she said. “I just want to make it easier for people because being active is just so important.”

To start, classes will run a few times a week, in the early morning and after-work hours, and are 50 minutes long — timed so people can fit in a bit of movement into their busy daily schedules. They will be taught by a handful of local instructors.

Community is of the utmost importance to Kinnane, who previously lived in the building before it housed the studio.

“We have such an amazing town and Adamsville is an incredible village,” she said, explaining that the building was once a hall for the Odd Fellows fraternity. “They used to have community gatherings, dances, weddings ... all sorts of stuff. So we’re hoping to bring that spirit back into the building.”

While Kinnane is careful not to count her chickens before they hatch, she is hopeful for a good turnout.

“I put a questionnaire out on Facebook just asking if people would be interested in a fitness studio,” she said. “A hundred people got back to me within a couple days saying 'absolutely, yes please.' So that was kind of my sign that this needs to happen.”

Henhouse Studio’s inaugural first class on March 30 has been sold out for a few weeks, but the celebratory reception afterwards is open for sign-ups. Class registrations, as well as a more exhaustive list of the studio’s offerings, is available on the studio’s website.
