TIVERTON — A Tiverton man faces a charge of first degree child molestation sexual assault after a missing Pennsylvania girl was found at a Tiverton home on Wednesday, July 7.

Tiverton Police arrested William Caldwel Stewart, 19, of 44 High Hill Road, on the charge after being alerted by Pennsylvania State Police that a 13-year-old girl they were seeking as a possible runaway might be at that location.

Pennsylvania authorities said the girl had been missing for a week.

Police said they had been pinging her phone and it had been turned off but then abruptly turned on. They also said that a friend of the girl directed police to a Snapchat photo that showed houses in the area of 44 High Hill Lane in Tiverton.

Tiverton officers responded to the home and located the girl.

Tiverton Police Captain Michael Miguel said that she was found in the basement and did not appear to be injured. According to Captain Miguel, the day she was found was her 14th birthday,

Captain Miguel said that other family members were present at the home, but there was no evidence that they were aware of the girl’s actual age.  Police believe that both Mr. Stewart and the girl misrepresented her age.  Captain Miguel said that the matter remains under investigation including whether the girl was being held against her will.

Pennsylvania news outlets had issued missing person bulletins for the girl starting July 1.

Mr. Stewart was arraigned in Second Division District Court on July 8 and was ordered held without bail.
