The Warren Police Department issued the following press release on Thursday afternoon, announcing the arrest of a Tiverton police officer following an investigation into potential child abuse.
Jacob Rapoza, the former school resource officer for Tiverton High School, was identified as being charged with a felony count of 2nd Degree Child Abuse following the investigation from Warren PD.
The release states:
On Aug. 10, 2023, an off-duty member of the Tiverton Police Department, identified as Jacob Rapoza, was arrested and charged with one count of 2nd Degree Child Abuse by the Warren Police Department.
Mr. Rapoza was charged after the Warren Police Department conducted an investigation of a report of child abuse after a juvenile had been brought to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for his injuries.
Following an investigation by Warren Police detectives, an arrest warrant was applied for and was authorized for Mr. Rapoza’s arrest.
Mr. Rapoza turned himself into the Warren Police Department, at which time he was processed and then transported to Sixth District Court. The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office then arraigned Mr. Rapoza on the single count of 2nd Degree Child Abuse resulting in Mr. Rapoza being held as a bail violator.
