Tiverton Police Report: Beach 'dispersals,' neighbors fed up with one another

Friday, May 22

Christopher James Gaitten, 36, of 293 Robert Gray Ave., Tiverton, was arrested on a charge of domestic violence, electronic tracking device — motor vehicle, at 10:30 p.m. at that address.

Jose-Ignacio Rodero-Licona, 29, of New Bedford, Mass., was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, .15 percent or greater, and driving without a license after a 10:34 p.m. traffic stop on Main Road.

At 2:09 a.m., a 17-year-old juvenile was summonsed on a charge of driving with a suspended license after motor vehicle stop on Fish Road.

Monday, May 25

After receiving a 12:45 a.m. call about a loud radio and swearing, police went to a Windwood Drive address and reported that “there will be no more noise.”

At 1:12 a.m., police went back to the same address after a caller complained that upstairs neighbors are now intentionally stomping around and turning the radio up and down.

At 3:30 a.m., a caller at Tiverton Senior Housing on Hancock Street said someone was shining a flashlight in her windows, then ran off.

Starting at 8:48 a.m., police made social distancing checks at Grinnell's Beach, Seapowet Beach, Fogland Beach (all parties fishing no issues), Bulgarmarsh Recreation Area, Town Farm, Dollar General, Pardon Gray Preserve, The Boat House, Li'l Bear, Walgreens, Pocasset School field, Cumberland Farms (both), Coastal Roasters, back to Grinnell's Beach (multiple Massachusetts vehicles removed), back to Seapowet Beach (Massachusetts vehicles removed), back to Fogland (multiple New York and Massachusetts vehicles dispersed), back to Bylgarmarsh Rec. (multiple parties skating — removed and advised on social distancing), Nanaquacket Bridge (large group, all dispersed), Bay and Hooper streets (large number of vehicles, people walking to bay — dispersed) …

At 5:18 p.m., police dispersed a large group at the Riverside boat ramp — out-of-states dispersed. Just waiting for a few more off the train tracks.

At 7:30 p.m., police went to Doris Avenue for a fireworks complaint.

At 7:51 p.m., police went to Neck Road for gunshots in the area.

At 7:55 p.m., police and rescue went to a Main Road address for possibly impaired parties “stumbling about” at a rented house. Tiverton and Little Compton ambulances took patients to St. Anne's Hospital.

Tuesday, May 26

A car struck a deer near Pocasset School at 5:11 a.m.

Police were called to Fernandes Avenue at 11:12 a.m. for a report of fireworks; found man shooting off a parachute toy that makes loud bangs.

A caller reported a dog bite on Clara Avenue at 2:42 p.m.

After responding to call at 5:14 a.m. from Cypress Avenue, police arrested Melissa Sylvia, 42, of 21 Cypress Ave., Tiverton, on charges of domestic simple assault, domestic disorderly conduct and domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone.

After a motor vehicle stop on Fish Road at Eagleville Road at 6:29 p.m., police made two arrests. Sarah E. Dean, 29, of Providence, was charged with obstructing a police officer, drug possession and on a warrant from 6th District Court. Also arrested was Brendan N. Ryl, 20, of Providence on three counts of drug possession and one count of marijuana possession, one ounce or less.

Wednesday, May 27

At 3:30 a.m., a Pershing Avenue caller reported a “peacock incessantly making noise from farm behind property.”

At 1:01 p.m., a Hambly Road called complained of blasting in the area.

A Stafford Road resident went to a nearby business at 1:03 p.m. to notify police that someone was in her house. Police found nobody in the house.

Police went twice to John Duggan Road to deal with a neighbor dispute involving a fence company.

At 2:56 p.m., police were dispatched to Briarwood Road for youths riding dirt bikes up and down the road. The riders were told to stay off the road.

At 4:04 a.m., police went to the high school for a report that a man with a metal detector had been digging up the stadium field. The digger was gone when police arrived.

At 8:48 p.m., gunshots were reported in the Seapowet Avenue area.

At 9:24 p.m., Massachusetts vehicles were found trying to get past barricades at Fogland Beach. They were dispersed.

Police went back to Fogland at 10:51 p.m. for juveniles with a beach fire and shooting off fireworks.

Thursday, May 28

A 911 caller report a fight in progress on Jaqueline Way at 12:47 a.m. Police determined that the fight was verbal.

At 5:22 a.m., a caller at Dason Park mobile homes asked for help removing an aggressive cat from her home.

Police received an anonymous tip from someone who suspects puppy breeding at a Brayton Road location.

At 3:42 p.m., a caller reported vandalism to a house he had just purchased on Massey Road — “someone took a baseball bat to the windows and doors.”

A caller reported that someone used her boost phone to order an iPhone 11 from Houston, Texas.

Police received more dirt bike complaints from Briarwood Road.

Dirt bikes were reported driving fast through the CVS parking lot on Main Road at 5:40 p.m.

At 7:57 p.m., juveniles were reported siting in the field behind Pocasset School. Police checked and found “no issue here, just some kids having a picnic.”

Police went to the area of the old railroad bridge off Riverside Drive at 10:14 p.m. after a caller reported people fishing and throwing rocks at his boat.

Friday, May 29

Police received several complaints regarding a graduation parade at Tiverton High School — “vehicles spinning tires, speeding in parking lot.”

Jorge Rivera, 32, of Fall River, was arrested on a bench warrant from 6th Division District Court at 5:40 p.m. On Hooper Street.

Saturday, May 30

At 12:05 p.m., police went to Route 24 in search of an erratic driver who a caller said had hit a barrier and continued on his way. The car could not be found.

Carmen J. Braxton, 28, of 840 Stafford Road, Tiverton, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third offense, at 10 p.m. On Stafford Road.

At 12:19 p.m., a hit and run driver struck a parked motorcycle at Underground Smoke Shop, them headed into Fall River.

Police went to East Road at 12:57 p.m. For a motorcycle with property damage and possible injury.

At 7:52 p.m., about 20 juveniles partying were dispersed from Fogland Beach.

A Belleview Avenue caller report that he found someone trying to enter his residence; he said he struck the person and the person left in a car.

Sunday, May 31

Just after 2 a.m., a car struck a pole on King Road, snapping the pole at its base. The driver was unhurt but the car had to be towed.

At 9:08 a.m., people were asked to leave after they were found sitting in the middle of the road on Nanaquacket Bridge.

Trailers and horses were reported on Fogland Beach at 9:08 a.m.. The riders agreed to leave.

A teacher reported that a student said via Google Classroom that he wanted to “burn down a government sky scraper.” He later said he would not actually do it.

Out-of-state vehicles dispersed from Grinnell's, Fogland and Seapower beaches during the afternoon.

A man declined rescue treatment after his motorcycle and a car collided at 5:36 p.m. on Main Road.
