DUI, domestic charges among Portsmouth police arrests

PORTSMOUTH: Here are recent arrests made by The Portsmouth Police Department:

Wednesday, Sept. 16

Pedro William Aguilar, 50, of 5 Maple Terrace, Middletown, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), first offense, after being pulled over on West Main Road at Almeida Terrace shortly before 3 a.m. Aguilar was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Thursday, Sept. 17

Barbara Jean Engley, 55, of 366 Child St. E, Warren, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of an illegal weapon other than a firearm. According to police, officers observed a vehicle committing roadway violations and pulled it over on West Main Road at Bradford Avenue at about 12:45 a.m. Narcotics and a large knife were found on Engley, who was a passenger in the vehicle, police said.

Friday, Sept. 18

Stefanie Dean, 52, of 2930 East Main Road, was arrested on several charges after officers responded to her home shortly before midnight for a reported domestic assault that had occurred earlier in the evening, according to police. Officers spoke with a 56-year-old Portsmouth man who had several visible injuries to his face and neck, police said. Officers determined that Dean was the primary aggressor in the incident.

Saturday, Sept. 19

Thomas J. Rodrigues IV, 33, of 1330 East Main Road, was charged with DUI, second offense, after being pulled over on Maize Corn Road at Mill Lane shortly before 3 a.m. for committing multiple roadway violations, police said.

Sunday, Sept. 20

Stephen Andrew Sousa, 36, of 670 Brayton Road, Tiverton, was charged with DUI, first offense, after being pulled over on West Main Road at Hedly Street shortly before 1 a.m. for committing multiple traffic violations, police said. He was also cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Spencer D. Grumt, 21, of 120 North Main St., Apt. B2, North Smithfield, was charged with using and possessing Class C fireworks valued at under $500. He was picked up by the Narragansett Police Department on a Portsmouth warrant, and local officers responded to Narragansett at about 4:40 a.m. to take custody of him.

James Littleton Johnson III, 57, of 785 Wapping Road, was arrested at his home at about 11:15 p.m. on a warrant charging him with domestic assault/battery. The victim was a 51-year-old Portsmouth woman, according to police.

Tuesday, Sept. 22

Lyla Jutras, 21, of 785 Wapping Road, was charged with domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property after allegedly pouring olive oil on a blanket owned by a 57-year-old male cohabitant of the home.
