Reenactment Weekend at Coggeshall Farm

Posted

Coggeshall Farm Museum is hosting Bristol Expedition Reenactment Weekend this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3 and 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Visitors can step back in time to see what life was like for Continental troops and the British Marines during the American Revolution in Rhode Island. Camp life and drill were an important part of the day-to-day routine for all soldiers of the Revolution. More time was spent on camp duties and drilling than was spent on the battlefield! Throughout the day, see demonstrations of tactical drills, musket firing, period domestic activities, and more that bring the Revolution to life.

Participating Units:

  • Marines Boston 1774-1776
  • 13th Continental Regiment
  • 2nd Rhode Island Regiment

Sched

  • 10:00 a.m. | Breakfast: Demonstration of typical soldier foods such as bread, porridge, and salt pork.
  • 11:00 a.m. |  Military Drill: Marching formations, musket handling demonstrations.
  • 12:00 p.m. | Camp Life Demonstrations Tent setup and living conditions. Laundry, sewing, and mending clothes.
  • 1:00 p.m. | Midday Meal Food preparation over outdoor fire.
  • 2:00 p.m. | What was the Revolution like for soldiers on a Ship?  Question-and-answer session.
  • 3:00 p.m. | Military Drill: Reenactors demonstrate military tactics and explain battlefield communication with drums and flags.
  • Throughout the day: See demonstrations of historical skills that supported the war effort, like blacksmithing and sewing, meet our farm animals, explore our nature trail, and more.
