Westport firefighters were able to extinguish a barn fire off Sodom Road early Sunday morning, and credited a family member for quickly sounding the alarm and helping to control the fire.
The resident, who was passing by the area and noticed smoke, grabbed a garden hose and was able to put out a bulk of the flames before firefighters further extinguished it.
Fire department members said the family member's actions likely saved the barn and the animals inside, though several sustained burn injuries. They are expected to recover.
Meanwhile, fire department members believe a heat lamp contributed to the fire.
