Question: What changes would you make to improve communication between the Barrington Town Council and the public?
Jarrod Ryan (R) — “I would extend the voting period of the Financial Town Meeting, after the FTM is recorded for public comment and review. I would task Barrington government to find innovative ways of proactively reaching out to senior members of the community. To ensure seniors know of and apply for eligible programs.”
Braxton Medlin (D) — “Communication should be inclusive. Our current Communications, Engagement, and Economic Development Officer is exceptionally skilled. I propose a more robust communication strategy, utilizing a multi-media approach and growing our social media presence. I would introduce a podcast and make newsletters available at our local merchants and Town Hall.”
Ray Clark (R) — “Good communication is imperative. I'd like to leverage technology to improve communication between the TC and the public. Text, email, social media, and traditional communication channels should all be implemented and/or expanded to facilitate robust communication. We should study the feasibility of a dedicated communication director position to coordinate efforts.”
Kate Berard (D) — “Active participation is a key characteristic of a healthy democracy. To encourage participation, the Town has worked to increase the quality and quantity of communication. I would continue promoting the new website and email notification system, taking feedback for usability, and would encourage more community surveys and social media sharing.”
