Ella Martin buried the game-winning penalty kick, powering the Barrington High School girls soccer team past Portsmouth 1-0 in the first round of the Division I playoffs.

The Eagles and Patriots played to a 0-0 tie through regulation and the game remained scoreless through two five-minute overtime periods. In the penalty kick shoot-out, Barrington had four made kicks: Molly Thurston, Marissa Lema, Maddie Kiely and Ella Martin. Barrington goalie Zoey Dyer made a key save in the penalty kicks.

“Everyone played well and high energy on and off the field during the whole match,” Barrington High School Coach Sue Silva. “It was a physical game but I am proud of the girls for not giving up and staying focused.”

Barrington moves on to face LaSalle in the quarterfinals in Providence on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
