Barrington Police received a call from someone who spotted a young girl wandering around the parking lot behind the Barrington Town Hall at about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.
Police officers responded and located the girl. The 5-year-old girl allegedly told police her father dropped her off at the playground behind the Town Hall and was going to pick her up later.
Police worked with officials from the school department to gather contact information for the girl’s father. Police were able to contact the girl’s father — he was at the Starbucks in town.
Police said the man did not seem to be concerned about the situation. Police said the man recently emigrated to the US from another country and told police that people leave their young children unattended in playgrounds all the time in that country.
Police notified DCYF regarding the incident.
