Barrington Police received a 911 call for an erratic driver on County Road at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 4.
Officers responded and spoke to witnesses, who said the female motorist nearly struck them and had put their lives in danger. Police located the suspect vehicle — it had reportedly lost a front tire — parked near the Barrington Shopping Center and then discovered the driver, later identified as Christa A. Quigley, 25, of Riverside, fleeing the scene on foot.
Police spotted her running along the wooded area behind some County Road businesses. Police said Quigley ducked behind a large trash container near an ice cream shop. Officers cornered her there and ordered her to stop running.
Police placed Quigley in handcuffs but she allegedly became very uncooperative, kicking the police officers. Police eventually secured plastic zip ties around Quigley’s feet, and she was transported by EMTs to a hospital for evaluation. Police officers had to remain with Quigley at the hospital.
Eventually, she was arraigned in the hospital and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle-first offense, reckless driving and other offenses against public safety-first offense, resisting legal or illegal arrest, two counts of simple assault and/or battery, and disorderly conduct.
