Barrington students’ artwork celebrated with Anchor Awards

More than a dozen Barrington students recently won RI Art Anchor Awards.

The Rhode Island Art Educators Association organized the awards and invited all art teachers in Grades 6 through 12, to enter their students’ artwork. 

The winners were announced recently, and the selected pieces were shared in a gallery at Rhode Island College’s Alex & Ani Hall from March 5 to 16. There was also a special opening reception and ceremony on March 11. 

Following is a list of the Barrington students whose artwork received awards:

Representing Barrington High School 

Best in category award: Jane Bryant, Grade 11 “The First Holy Communion” — Painting, AP 2D Design, Ms. Lindenburg

Best in category award: Eden White, Grade 10 “Stone Cold” — Sculpture, Studio Art 3D, Mrs. Tucciarone

Best in category award: Fiona McManus, Grade 11 “Grounded” — Painting, AP 2D Design, Ms. Lindenburg

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
