Local entry edges Bristol-Warren in three games series, 2-1

The combined East Providence Central/Pineview Little League Senior Baseball Division All-Star team captured the District 2 championship by defeating Bristol-Warren in what was a best-of-three series for the title played last week.

East Providence, playing in collaborative with Pawtucket side, defeated the Bristol/Warren outfit, two games to one.

Bristol-Warren won the the first game at home 9-7 on June 25. The teams met in a rematch June 26 in Darlington for Game 2 when the locals were 12-11 victors. The EP/Pineview club then won the deciding contest 9-7 also played in Pawtucket on Thursday, June 27.

The team has five East Providence players on the roster: Jayden Alford; Alexavier Guevara; Brady Silva; Dominic Tavares and John Wooten. All five are students at East Providence High School.

Pineview members of the team are: Joe Bernard, Jr.; Brayden Farland; Harold Fernandez; Lucas Howard; Sidney Lockhart; Nick Packer; Landen Phillips; and Charlie Waterman.

Vinnie Howard of Pineview is the team's head coach, and Nate Cahoon of EP Central is the team manager. Thomas "T.J." Burns (EPCLL) and Jayden Reynolds (Pineview) are assistant coaches.

The team, known to players and coaches as "Pineview East," now enters the State Championship tournament, where it will square off against the representatives from Districts One (Cranston Eastern), Three (South Kingstown), and Four (Cumberland). The tournament begins on Saturday, July 6, at 5 p.m. at Fay Field located at 1 Dallas Street in Cranston.
