More than 100 voters cast their ballots Saturday as Westport opened early voting for six hours at town hall.
In all, town clerk Kristin Stinson said 112 people voted Saturday between 9 a.m, and 3 p.m. Though the general election is still about two weeks, early voting will run almost daily through the end of the month throughout the Commonwealth.
Polls at town hall will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays this week, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 26-30. All polling locations in Westport will be open for the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election.
Voters who showed up Saturday were greeted by a large contingent of voting advocates who held sings and sample ballots in an effort to spread the word that they needn’t wait until Tuesday, Nov. 3 to make their choice.
“We tried to let people know that by voting early they can protect their vote, with all the confusion at the federal level,” one of the organizers, Mary Thornton, said.
The turnout was organized by the Westport Democratic Town Committee but voting advocates on both sides of the aisle stood side by side, spreading the word and handing out flyers and other literature on this year’s election.
She said the day went great — “ and there was a line inside at times,”
