Townies can clinch the No. 2 spot in D-II tourney with a win over Lincoln High

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School girls’ volleyball team continued its winning ways recently in Division II while another of the better sides, Cumberland, stumbled opening the door for the Townies to earn a top two seed in the upcoming league playoffs.

EPHS defeated Burrillville 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-16) and Mt. Hope 3-2 (25-22, 16-25, 25-10, 16-25, 17-15) to improved to 12-2 in the standings with one match left in the regular season in Lincoln High on October 27.

The Townies have won their last five outings since suffering a five-game loss to first-place Chariho back on October 3.

Until last week, those Chargers and Cumberland were setting the pace in the D-II ranks just ahead of the Townies.
But Cumberland, which along with unbeaten Chariho (14-0) are the only two teams to be E.P. this fall, lost its first three matches the season last week.

Instead of staying ahead of the Townies, the Clippers entered their finale with an 11-3 record.

If EPHS beats Lincoln it will be the second seed behind Chariho. A loss and a Cumberland win over Johnston and the Clippers will be the two with the Townies the three.

Kate Burkhardt had nine kills and five aces for E.P. against Burrillville. Keira Mullen added six kills.

Emma Nordquist paced the Townies against Mt. Hope with nine kills and 24 assists. Brookelyn Feola also had nine kills, 16 digs and 5 service aces.
