PROVIDENCE — Blue skies and balmy conditions greeted the teams and fans alike as the East Providence High School and LaSalle Academy football squads restarted their traditional Thanksgiving Day rivalry Thursday morning, Nov. 25.
The host Rams convincingly won the 92nd edition of the holiday contest held this season at Cimini Stadium, handing the visiting Townies a 34-6 defeat
The game wasn’t played last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first time since the series started back in 1929 it was canceled for any reason.
The Rams never trailed in the 2021 version after scoring the game’s first touchdown late in the opening quarter. LaSalle eventually built a commanding 20-0 lead at intermission. The Townies avoided the shutout with a TD late in the fourth period.
LaSalle now leads the overall series, 53-37-2. The Rams upped their recent win streak in the longest running holiday rivalry between two intra-state schools to three. LaSalle won the 2018 game 21-18 and 2019 35-14. E.P. last won the contest in 2017.
