Legislators from Newport County met in virtual forums to discuss General Assembly rules, greenhouse gases, voting laws, CRMC and rising seas, abortion rights and the specific needs of Newport County towns during two events organized by the Newport County chapter of the League of Women Voters.

East Bay Media Group and Newport This Week helped sponsor and host the forums. The first was recorded on Jan. 24 and featured Rep. Marvin Abney, Dist. 73; Rep. Lauren Carson, Dist. 75; Rep. John “Jay” Edwards, Dist. 70; and Rep. Deb Ruggiero, Dist. 74. The second was held Jan. 31 and featured Sen. Walter Felag, Dist. 10; Sen. Jim Seveney, Dist. 11; Rep. Terri Cortvriend, Dist. 72; Rep. Susan Donovan, Dist. 69; and Rep. Michelle McGaw, Dist. 71.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
