Letter: Atria’s generosity made grand opening special

The Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center (PMPSC) wishes to publicly express our sincere appreciation to Atria Senior Living for its exceptional generosity during our grand opening celebration on Oct. 21, 2026. Its donation of food for 200 attendees was an extraordinary contribution that helped make this milestone event welcoming, festive and memorable for all who joined us.

We want to especially recognize the outstanding service and professionalism of four members of the Atria team: Community Sales Director Sandra Dugan, Executive Director Jason Grifka, Activities Director Allen Reilly and Director of Culinary Services Dennis Laprade. Their leadership, attention to detail and genuine commitment to serving older adults were evident in every aspect of their support. Not only did they prepare and deliver a wonderful spread, but they also took the time to set up the food for our guests and stayed afterward to ensure the space was fully cleaned and restored.

Atria Senior Living’s commitment to older adults and to the Portsmouth community shines through in gestures like these. We are deeply grateful for its partnership and for the spirit of generosity it brought to this important milestone for our town.

Its contribution reflects the very best of community collaboration, and on behalf of everyone at PMPSC, we extend our heartfelt thanks for its friendship.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
