Letter: Editorial on Howard did him justice

Posted

To the editor:
Having been appointed the first Community Relations Officer for the East Providence Police Department, I approached Dave Howard, the publisher of the East Providence Post, about a weekly police column. This was during the sixties.

We created a column called "Constable's Corner.” It was a human interest column about weekly encounters by the police doing the good things for the city.

It was widely read and got great reviews. Thanks to David Howard. He was certainly a great journalist, ethical, and community minded.

Your editorial (“Honoring the legacy of David Howard,” July 15 edition of The Post) does him justice.
Thanks,

Richard Ferreira
Capt. EPPD (ret)

Editor's Note: An obituary for Mr. Howard ran in the July 22 print edition of The Post and is available for viewing here on eastbayri.com.
