Letter: Fly your flags, or leave the Country

Posted

To the editor:

That is the way I feel. Too many folks take advantage of our Country (with a capital "C"). Please remember this, as thousands have died to keep us this way. In many wars of independence, of protection from annihilation; cessation of internal dissent and currently an encroachment of ideals (re: parenthood, child rearing, and family values).

You, the reader, have every right to leave the United States. No one forces you to stay. There are many countries in this small world that would and do encourage you to bring your wealth, ideals, inventive character and socialistic-leaning principles to their struggling populace and proletariat regimes.

Should you choose this right, I am among a few that would help you pack your bags and help you on your way ASAP!

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
