Letter: More alarmist nonsense from the ‘Green Oceans Gang’

Another letter in Shorelines that describes the supposed threats from running deeply buried transmission lines through the uninhabited roadsides of Route 88 is truly Trumpian in its distortion and misrepresentation of reality. Written by a member of the “Green Oceans Gang,” the letter provides a clear example of the kind of hysteria that these folks would like to try to legitimate by creating a new town committee in Westport to protect us all from the dire consequences of offshore wind projects.

In truth, the most serious threats to our beautiful “Blue Oceans” are from rising water temperatures around the world that are destroying and depleting many forms of marine life. The essential purpose of offshore wind projects is to reduce carbon emissions and slow the rise in seawater and atmospheric temperatures. It is difficult to understand why members of the “Green Oceans Gang” find this truth so hard to comprehend, or to accept the idea that one Right Whale death along the Jersey coast because of a vessel strike is not a “good reason” to oppose development of wind power off the coast of New England that would provide carbon-free energy for several million homes and slow the rise in temperatures.
