PORTSMOUTH — A 28-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested today, Aug. 29, following an investigation by the Portsmouth Police Detective Division into the solicitation of a minor for sexual activity.

The investigation revealed that John Magee, of 12 Summer St., Wareham, had traveled from Massachusetts to the Portsmouth area to engage in sexual activity with a juvenile friend, and to provide her with cannabis.

According to police, detectives pulled Magee’s vehicle over in the area of Portsmouth Plaza, 3001 East Main Road, and subsequently took him into custody.

Inside Magee’s vehicle, detectives located numerous knives, cannabis, narcotics paraphernalia, “and other items of evidentiary value,” police said.

Magee was arraigned on the following charges at 2nd Division District Court in Newport and released on $5,000 personal recognizance:

• indecent solicitation of a minor

• contributing to the delinquency of a minor

• illegal possession of weapons other than firearms
