Mandolin ensemble to perform at Bristol State House Saturday night

This Saturday, March 25, New England-based Enigmatica, directed by Marilyn Mair, is set to perform at the Bristol State House. This group is part chamber orchestra and part plucked-string double quartet. They perform a variety of music: Brazilian, Baroque, eclectic contemporary and Americana. The ensemble features instruments from the mandolin family — mandolin, mandola, octave mandola and mandocello — and 6- and 7- string guitars.

WHEN: Saturday, March 25, at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7:15.
WHERE: Bristol State House, 240 High St., Bristol
PRICING: $15 in advance, $20 at the door, $10 for students

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
