Reimagined nine-hole golf course on old Metacomet property is expected to open in June

"MetLinks," the reimagined nine-hole layout on the site of the former Metacomet Country Club, will soon tee off for real after the full East Providence Waterfront Commission, at its May 16 meeting, backed the proposal submitted by ownership.

MetLinks is part of the broader, "The Met," mixed use plan being conceived by Metacomet Property LLC, an affiliate of Marshall Development, the owners of the 138-acre parcel off Veterans Memorial Parkway.

The Commission's unanimous vote, which followed similar support the item received previously from its Design Review Committee subgroup the week prior on May 9 as well as the East Providence Planning Board, allows the course to open by the owner's intended date of sometime in June.

“Thank you to the East Providence Waterfront Commission for their support of the public 9-hole course,” Lianne Marshall, Principal at Marshall Properties, Inc., said in a press release issued by the company after the May 16 meeting and vote.

She continued, “We are proud to restore golf to the property again. MetLinks will become a cherished recreational destination and a source of pride for East Providence. We can’t wait to welcome golfers of all ages and skill levels to experience this beautifully restored course this summer.”

The new course, which is a reconfiguration of the old front nine hole at Metacomet CC, was redesigned by the Rhode Island-based architectural firm The Northeast Golf Company, an offshoot of which, CLUB9 Golf Operations, will also manage MetLinks.
