Barrington Police are investigating a pellet gun attack that took place on Saturday, Aug. 3.
According to police, a 14-year-old Barrington boy was walking on Lincoln Avenue at about 8 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and two men got out. The boy described the men as being 18- to 20-years old — he said one was white and other was hispanic.
The two men then asked the boy a series of questions, police said. They asked if he wrestled or liked to fight. One of the men asked the boy if he wanted to fight him, police said.
That’s when one of the two men pulled out an Air Soft gun and shot the 14-year-old boy in the hand, police said. They then took off in their car.
The boy went home and told his mother about what happened and she called police. Officers searched the area for a vehicle that matched the description offered by the boy, but were unable to locate the car.
Police said video footage from a surveillance camera outside the middle school showed the suspect vehicle, but officers were unable to pull license plate information from the video footage.
The Aug. 3 incident followed two pellet gun attacks in late July. On Monday, July 22, police received a call about two 10-year-old Barrington boys who had been struck with the gel pellets while they were on the East Bay Bike Path near Brickyard Pond. The caller told police that four teenagers were to blame. On Wednesday, July 24, Barrington Police received a call from a man who said a group of four teenagers shot at him with a gel pellet gun while he was on the bike path.
