Barrington Police received a 911 call at about 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, for a male party yelling and screaming in the woods behind the Bayside YMCA.
Officers responded and searched the woods at Veterans Park for the individual. They eventually located the man — he was homeless and had been living in the woods with his dog. Police said the man was 26 years old and originally from Warren.
Police spoke to the man, but said he was very difficult to understand and may have been experiencing some mental health issues. EMTs transported the man to a hospital, where he was admitted. Police brought the man’s dog to the East Providence Animal Shelter.
During the response, police found some unidentified medication in the man’s possession and have sent it out to the lab for testing. Police said they are working with House of Hope and Crossroads RI in an effort to help the man once he is released from the hospital.
