Eagles fall to 1-6, hope to bounce back this week

Barrington High School’s game against North Providence was postponed because the field in North Providence was unplayable after the heavy rain on Sunday.

Coach Sandy Gorham said his team’s record has slipped to 1-6 this season.

“For some reason, we’ve stumbled defensively,” Gorham said. “We seem to be a little out of synch.”

Gorham said his team is working hard to get back on track.

“The kids have been great. Sometimes it’s easy to get discouraged but they come to practice and they play hard,” he said. “The effort is not a question.”

Gorham said his team has played well in some games, only to have one bad inning and fall far behind. He said that was the case against Middletown, as the Eagles and Islanders went into the fifth inning tied 2-2. But the Eagles made a series of errors in the inning and Middletown pushed ahead to a big lead.

“I think we have to remember we can only give a team three outs in an inning,” Gorham said.

Barrington is scheduled to play against North Smithfield on Wednesday.
