Tigers girls' tennis tops Huskies 6-1

The Tiverton girls tennis team topped Mt. Hope 6-1 in a home match on Tuesday evening. First singles player Brooke Sowa, third and fourth singles players Caroline Durost  and Bella Scull and all three doubles team won their matches as the Tigers improved to 5-4 in Division 2. 

Sowa improved to 8-1 beating Mt. Hope's Kaia Brown in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Carol Durost also won in straight sets over Emma Sorrentino, 6-3, 7-5. Scull beat Avery Walsh 6-0, 6-4. 

Tigers First doubles team of Carly Sanna and Emanuely Faustino defeated Ava CAbral and Charlotte Arsenault in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5. Second doubles team of  Sadie Loueiro-Brown and Nanami Cater thrashed Marissa Cabral and Kayla Sousa, 6-0, 6-1, and third doubles team of Hailey Archambault and and Stella Valentino won 7-6, 6-3. 

Second singles player Angie Cordeiro fell to Maggie Dufficy in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 2-6.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
