Warren PD: Police make five arrests, investigate 'hazardous' dumpster

Monday, July 15
Police dispersed multiple people loitering on the front steps of the Warren Police Department on Joyce Street at 8:25 a.m. One was given a no trespass order.

The building official was notified regarding equipment on the sidewalk of Main Street causing an obstruction at 12:12 p.m.

A Main Street resident told officers at 1:15 p.m. that they believed they had been scammed.

Police responded to Main Street at 7:20 p.m. following a report that the caller had gotten dust in their eyes, and they were concerned it was from asbestos being thrown into a nearby dumpster. Police observed the contents of the dumpster and saw only wood. The caller refused a ride to the hospital.

A Metacom Avenue resident called to report they had burned themselves with a pan at 11:18 p.m., but refused a ride to the hospital.

Tuesday, July 16
Erick Sajche Meza, 32, of 3 Baxter Ln, Greenville, RI, was arrested on a warrant for second degree sexual assault at the State Police Barracks in Lincoln at 1:21 a.m. He was picked up by Warren police and later transported to District Court later that morning.

A Market Street resident reported at 2:36 p.m. that their neighbor had hit a dumpster prior to leaving their home. They also said the vehicle was not legally registered. A search of the area didn’t turn up anything.

Police responded to a business on Everett Street at 7:08 p.m. after an employee working alone got scared at someone knocking loudly at the door. It turned out to be a UPS driver attempting to get a signature for a package.

Wednesday, July 17
Dante N. Francis, 18, of 19 Davis St., Warren, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop at 12:01 a.m. near Child Street and Serpentine Road. They were charged with DUI of liquor (BAC unknown, first offense), and refusal to submit to a chemical test. They were arraigned and later released.

A caller reported hitting a deer on Poverty Corner Road at 3:44 a.m. DEM was advised.

Fire volunteers responded to Coomer Avenue at 6:00 a.m. following the report of a structure on fire. The fire had been mostly knocked down by 6:20 a.m.

Damage to a door at Malik’s Liquors was reported at 12:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 18
A caller reported a suspicious person dressed in black going through a truck on Lyndon Street at 5:43 a.m. Police found nothing odd in the area, and the truck was secure.

Police received a report from multiple callers at 6:42 a.m. that two people were fighting near Main and Croade Streets.

Authorities assisted a Sisson Street resident at 8:54 a.m. who reported having a skunk trapped on the property.

Baby possums were transported by the animal control officer from a Harris Avenue residence to a wildlife rehabilitation facility in Portsmouth at 9:33 a.m. after the homeowner found the mother deceased.

Police got a call that “harmful debris” was being thrown into a dumpster near Main and Joyce Streets at 7:03 p.m. Police observed wood, ceiling tiles and shingles inside the dumpster, but nothing visibly harmful.

Friday, July 19
Police went to Highlander Charter School at 7:25 p.m. following a report from a staff member of multiple suspicious vehicles and an open door. Police learned that a scheduled adult volleyball league was using the gym with permission.

Police were asked at 9:23 p.m. to disperse juveniles who were allegedly ringing a Brady Street resident’s doorbell repeatedly. Police didn’t find anyone in the area.

Police spoke to a man outside the Joyce Street Apartments at 10:29 p.m. who was allegedly sitting outside and “yelling randomly”. He was advised to quiet down.

Saturday, July 20
Katina L. Saviano, 32, of 424 Water St., Warren, was arrested following a call at 1:29 a.m. alleging she had assaulted her boyfriend. She was charged with two counts of domestic violence (simple assault and/or battery and disorderly conduct, both first offenses). She was arraigned and released later that morning.

Brian Silva, 35, of 9 Stuart St., Warren, was arrested on a Warrant at 2:41 p.m. He faced charges of cyberstalking and cyber harassment, and disorderly conduct. He was transported to the ACI later that evening.
Police left a message for the owner of a chicken that was spotted in the road near Main and Vernon Streets at 6:48 p.m.

Police received fireworks complaints from the area of Franklin Street at 8:43 p.m. and Touisset Road at 9:17 p.m. Both times police didn’t find anyone shooting them off.

Sunday, July 21
A caller on Child Street reported at 9:05 a.m. that all four tires on a car parked at the Waterview Condominium Association had been slashed.

A police officer reported that an “abandoned kayak” was left in front of Kickemuit Middle School at 11:18 a.m.

Timothy B. Mendes, 65, of 162 Market St., Warren, was arrested at 5:46 p.m. following a report that an older man might have purchased alcohol for a minor at Malik’s Liquors. He was charged with Furnishing/Procurement of Alcoholic Beverages for Underages Persons (first offense), and was arraigned and released later that evening.
