Letter: Approve question 16 — support local business

Vote to approve Local Ballot Question 16, which would amend the Tiverton Town Charter to update the duties and responsibilities of the Economic Development Commission.

The Tiverton Economic Development Commission has worked over the past 10 years to support our local Tiverton businesses.

During Covid, it provided information about state programs that provided financial assistance to businesses struggling to stay afloat during closures.

We were able to secure funding to restore the local landmark Middle Avenue gazebo by replacing the structure’s roof and adding electricity.

By passing along information about loans and grants, we were able to help a local business learn about funding that enabled it to secure a grant to upgrade structures to its facility.

The Tiverton Economic Development Commission has welcomed new businesses into Tiverton and over the past years has honored longstanding businesses on a monthly basis by highlighting them on the town’s website.

We are asking residents to support the town amendment that would update the duties and responsibilities of the Economic Development Commission to better reflect the current goals and objectives we feel would help promote a business-friendly Tiverton.

Thank you for your support.

Renee Jones
