Letter: I just don’t get Rhode Island’s abortion laws

To the editor:

As I ride around Rhode island I find churches, synagogues, and other houses of worship on almost every corner. I daresay most if not all have the Ten Commandments as a fundamental of their belief system.

Yet, along with New York and California, Rhode Island has the most liberal laws with regard to the murder of babies up to time of birth and, in some cases, even after birth. I just don't get it! I see politicians standing on TV with their children proudly declaring that not only will they support our Rhode Island women's right to kill their babies, they will help out-of-state women to avail themselves of the same service. I just don't get it.

At 20 weeks, a baby is no longer a clump of cells. In fact at about that age with skilled OBGY doctors and nurses the infant is capable of surviving, yet our laws permit its murder and many of our politicians boost about how liberal we are. I just don't get it.

To murder a 20-week infant without cesarean section, the baby must be literally pulled apart. How can we allow that?

While babies are being murdered, there are agencies ready to help a new mother so she can keep her baby. There are also people waiting for the opportunity to adopt babies. I know of one couple that went to China to adopt two children because they couldn't do it locally.

Of course, if you still don't want babies you can find pills and devices at your local drugstore shelf to prevent pregnancy. Again, I don't get it!
