To the editor:
I would like to comment about the League of Woman Voters’ (LWV) letter to the editor from Jill Kassis and Christine Keyser and the associated article by Jim McGaw in the Oct. 27 Portsmouth Times.
In a Sunday email all candidates were notified of the LWV forum and given three possible dates to attend. By Monday, LWV reduced this to two dates, Oct. 26 or Oct. 27. By Wednesday, a date was quickly chosen that fit the “majority” (Democrats) of the candidates.
Ms. Keyser was notified by the Republican candidates that they were not available to attend on the one date offered. As Keith Hamilton was quoted, the date of the event simply wasn’t convenient.
While I appreciate the opportunity offered by the League of Woman Voters, they should have provided a date that all candidates could have attended. It’s unfortunate that all Portsmouth candidates were not given “the opportunity to share their ideas and ambitions” and Portsmouth voters “will not have the same experience that was offered to Newport and Middletown Voters.”
