Saturday concert at Four Corners

Posted

The Atwater-Donnelly Trio performs a unique blend of traditional American and Celtic folk music and percussive dance this Saturday in Tiverton. Rhode Islanders Elwood Donnelly, Aubrey Atwater, and Cathy Clasper-Torch blend gorgeous and unusual vocals and play guitar, Appalachian mountain dulcimer, violin, cello, mandolin, Irish whistle, harmonica, banjo, limberjacks, and other surprises, including Appalachian clogging and French Canadian footwork.

The performance is appealing to all ages, and with a relaxed stage presence, Aubrey, Elwood, and Cathy, explain song, instrument, and dance origins to give more relevance to the material. Separately and together, they have performed throughout the United States and beyond, and their recordings receive worldwide airplay and streaming.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
