First responders transported two men to the hospital following a head-on crash on the Barrington River Bridge Wednesday night, Oct. 30.
Police said a Warren man was driving his Toyota Camry north over the bridge at about 9:15 p.m., when his vehicle crossed the center lines and struck a south-bound Toyota RAV4 head-on. Witnesses to the crash quickly called police, and officers were on-scene a few minutes later.
Police said the two vehicles sustained heavy damage, and both motorists were injured. Police said the Warren man was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered more serious injuries than the Barrington man who was driving the RAV4, as he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Police are also investigating whether the Warren man was driving drunk. Barrington Police Chief Dino DeCrescenzo said there had been reports of an erratic driver in Warren just moments before the crash on the bridge. The Warren man submitted to a blood test at the hospital, and should results show he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the man could face criminal charges, police said.
First responders had to use the "Jaws of Life" to extricate one of the motorists from his vehicle.
